The Mount Horeb Orchestra Mission
In our schools music education exists to awaken and develop aesthetic sensibilities, attitudes, and skills that will allow our students to enjoy a richer life through participation in musical experiences, including both listening and performing. As educator’s we are preparing not only today’s musicians, but preparing our students to continue to experience music throughout their lives.
As a school district it is important that we present a comprehensive music curriculum. One part of this comprehensive curriculum is the Instrumental music program, and an instrumental music program cannot be considered complete unless, it allows students the opportunity to study all of the traditional instruments (woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings)
Furthermore, one of western culture’s greatest treasures, string literature, is made available to students through the presence of the string program. This is a part of human culture and history that all students should have the opportunity to experience.
Finally, Mount Horeb has a strong tradition of string music, not only in its schools, but throughout the community. It is the current mission of the Mount Horeb Orchestra Program to continue this tradition by providing students in our district with the opportunity to study and perform on string instruments.
