6th Grade Orchestra
In 6th grade orchestra, students will continue to build on the basic skills necessary to play music on a string instrument. The focus is on developing a consistent playing position, technique and practice habits. The first semester curriculum focuses primarily on book II of Essential Elements for Strings, while the second semester is a combination of Essential Strings, a Solo or Ensemble piece, and an introduction to String Orchestra Literature. Scheduling is coordinated so that students may concurrently participate in 6th grade band without missing instruction.
Students in 6th grade meet once a week in a small group lesson (3-5 students @ 45 minutes) and also in a larger group rehearsal by house (5-10 students @ 45 minutes).
